Midlands Co-op Member Relations

Activities & Events

There are member activities taking place across the Society’s trading area almost every day of the week. Not all are available in all areas – they reflect local interests.

They range from social and recreational groups, which include a wide choice of special interests, to educational classes, tutored groups and learning opportunities for those wanting to find out more about co-operation. In addition, MCS Member Relations Committees link with and support local branches of other co-operative member organisations, such as the Co-operative Women’s Guild, the National Guild of Co-operators and, for young people, the Woodcraft Folk.

There is quite a list of special interest groups; a heritage group, indoor bowls, ramblers, walking and even Co-op runners and the wine circle welcome responsible drinkers. You can join an amateur drama group in Leicester or Birmingham, there are photography, history, craft and keep fit groups across the area.

Most of the above groups are aimed at adults, we do however provide many opportunities for younger people. We support pre school groups, junior drama and also children’s summer workshops and even magic shows. There is one special body that can provide fantastic co-operative learning and fun activities for children and young adults, called the Woodcraft Folk; they have groups across all areas. To learn more about them visit the links page to find the national Woodcraft Folk site.

Details about all the above can be found on the member relations groups’ pages or by contacting your local Member Relations Officer.

There are also special training days held to improve awareness about the wide and diverse co-operative movement. Along with other one-off events and trips these are publicised on the local activities pages below. Please contact the Officer in your area for details if there is nothing on the page to interest you.
